Checking Duplicates in Asset Management
Hello:
It is understood that duplicate assets are avoided by updating assets with duplicate service tags when using the Asset Import Tool, but there does not seem to be a way to avoid duplicates by service tag or serial number when creating assets using the asset forms in the Assets application.
Is there a way to prevent duplicates based on service tag and/or serial number (ideally, a prompt for the technician indicating that an asset with that service tag or serial number already exists), and if not, is there a best way to generate a report of duplicate service tags and serial numbers?
Thank you.

Hello Anderson,
There actually *is* a way to control whether duplicate asset entry (by hand) is allowed.
- The asset app has a setting in its TDAdmin interface under the Asset Form Settings to allow you to pick whether duplicates are to be allowed and which field(s) should be use to check to prevent duplicates.
- You have to have a security role permission for each asset app called "Create duplicate assets from within the TDNext Assets/CIs application"

I changed the Asset Form Setting to allow duplication with confirmation. For some reason, duplicates were being allowed despite "Do Not Allow" being selected prior, and the technician role not allowing the creation of duplicate assets. - Anderson Hanchett Thu 11/16/23 5:18 PM
In this case, the items were added manually. - Anderson Hanchett Mon 11/20/23 12:52 PM
Their security roles did not allow the creation of duplicate assets. - Anderson Hanchett Wed 11/22/23 12:39 PM
