Project Plan task dependencies where both tasks can be completed the same day

I have these two lines on my project plan

34      run process X            6/7 - 6/10

35      run process Y             6/7 - 6/10

Step 34 must complete before we can do step 35.  They only take 5 minutes so they can be done on the same day.   When I try to put a predecessor on line 35 in my project, as soon as I hit enter after entering the predecessor value of "34" TDX auto changes the start and end dates of line item 35 so they don't overlap.  No, they need to have the same dates.

I then searched the TeamDynamic question area and found this very same question dated 2018 and asked by Marie and Mark S responded that in the dependency column you can specify 0 lag time, so I tried that and on line 35 on my project in the predecessor column I enter    34 ES +0   and hit enter.   But...TDX still auto changes the start and end dates of line 35 to be 6/12 - 6/14.  No, that step can and should be done on the same day as line item 34 as long as line item 34 completes first.   How can I put a predecessor on line 35 that line item 34 must be done before we can start line item 35...BUT they both need to have the same dates?

Hi Carolyn. Have you tried making it be like: 34 ES -1

or else: 34 ES -5 (whatever number it would take to make it pop back down to 6/7?

Mark's response above resolved our issue, ie we needed to use negative numbers for our lag time. Thank you! - Carolyn Jensen Wed 6/7/23 4:07 PM
