Assigned vs Scheduled Hours

Hi team,

What is the difference between assigned and scheduled hours in projects?

Are scheduled hours only entered at the project level, while assigned hours apply at the issue/task/risk level? Also, do assigned hours reduce the user's availability in the same way scheduled hours do?

Thanks!

Constantin

Hi Constantin,

Assigned Hours would be the Estimated Hours for project tasks that the resource in question is directly assigned to, whereas scheduled hours has to do with their Resource schedule information on the project's Resources section.

So Let's say I have Capacity of 40 hours in a week. Then I get scheduled for 20 hours of that week to a project. That's the Scheduled Hours. Then, after that, let's say I get assigned a task that is estimated to take 10 hours. Then I'll have an Assignment of 10 hours. Then finally, there's Actual Hours when a user finally logs time.

Thanks! Just to confirm: in the example you mentioned above, if the user isn’t assigned any scheduled hours but is assigned a task with 10 hours, their capacity will remain at 40 hours. This is because the assigned hours were not entered as scheduled hours for the project and, therefore, were never deducted from the user’s capacity to update their availability. Is that correct? - Constantin de Boisseson Tue 12/17/24 8:45 AM
Correct, Assigned hours do not deduct from the user's capacity. - Mark Sayers Tue 12/17/24 9:54 AM
