Project task dependency has a red border and will not save

Hello - I would like to know what the red border means when trying to enter a project task dependency (waterfall).

I have a project task on line 117 of my project and I want it to be dependent on the task on line 161.  This dependency field on 117 has a red border when I type "161" into it.  It will not save until I delete the dependency.  I've searched your KB and can't find what a red border means. There is no helpful text to indicate what the problem might be either.  Can you shed some light on this?

You should always be able to mouse over the top right corner of the "red" cell and it'll display a note about why it is being highlighted. - Mark Sayers Mon 7/31/23 3:53 PM

Hi Mark,

My apologies.  I thought there might be a known reason for the red border in general.

I just figured it out - all I had to do was give up and ask for help in order to stumble on the answer.

161 is dependent on the parent of 117.  An indirect circular dependency.

Does the red border always mean a circular dependency or are there other reasons that might happen?  Knowing this would be helpful should I bump into this again.

Thanks!

Sarah

Which application are you using? The web app or the Windows plan manager app? - Mark Sayers Mon 7/31/23 3:37 PM

What are the dates of plan row 117 vs those of row 161?

I don't know that I can see those in this shot to troubleshoot/investigate?
