Hello Gregory,
That attribute is not strictly used other than that it is set automatically if an ExternalSourceID is set. The ExternalSourceID is determined by the ID column of the page at TDAdmin > Applications > [asset app] > External Viewers, for the particular viewer you wish to associate the asset with. When those are set up, and when an ExternalID is provided for the created asset, a button is added to the created asset to allow that asset's record in the external system to be linked to directly from TDX.
