Workflow Task Step - group assigned receive email notification?

Question: we have a workflow with a Task Step assigned to a group. Does the group get notified?

To confirm, when I view the group, the members have “yes” in the notified column. They said they didn’t get notified, so I am trying to figure out if it’s broken or if Task steps in a workflow don’t send notifications to groups.

I looked for an answer on the Task Step KB article, but it didn’t say (can I recommend that you add it?):

Additional searching found questions which further confused:

From 2018, updated 2020 that says notifications to groups is not possible unless the task is added manually, but doesn’t say anything about workflows.

This Q/A mentions a workflow...steps that branch into tasks that notify groups…but there was no definitive “yes it worked” answer:

Hello Heather,

Are you testing this workflow in Sandbox by chance?

In general the assigned resource(s) of a task step do get notified, yes.

No this is not testing in the Sandbox. I understand alerts don't always work there. This was in our production environment. - Heather Malecha Wed 7/20/22 11:24 AM
Also I didn't get notified of your reply? I searched in:all (which searches my entire mailbox including spam and deletes) but I did not get your answer. I checked today wondering why I hadn't heard back (because normally you are quick). - Heather Malecha Wed 7/20/22 11:26 AM
I would have to see more about the workflow to understand what possibly could be preventing the group in question from being notified about their step.

You can either create a support ticket so we can dive deeper into this, or you can at least advise what ticket app, workflow ID, and test ticket ID were being used here to see if the group would be notified of their step.

Also I'm not sure why you didn't receive my reply previously. It could be that your account somehow has blocked our domain or something at the organization level has blocked or designated our mail as spam so it doesn't get delivered.

I never had problems in the past, and received your reply just now, so it could've been that TDX was having issues at that time.

Your answer was:
- "In General" which sounds like there is more to it (or maybe not)?
- "Assigned Resource" - which I don't understand if that equates to specific person or group.
So apologies but I am still not clear. When a Task Step is assigned to a group, members of the group are sent notifications. Yes or No?

If the answer is yes, we will open a support ticket if we want to dive deeper. I was just asking for my understanding. And recommending that TDX updates their KB so this is clearer (so people like me aren't confused when trying to find dated answers in the Q&A).

"In General" just means that notifications do go out on workflow task assignments *unless* there is something like group-level notification settings being set to "false" that would hinder them from going out.

So regardless who the task step is assigned to (person or group) a notification should go out, yes.
