Data Center Inventory Relationship and Configuration Items

Hello,

We are looking into our infrastructure asset application, and we are curious to learn if TeamDynamix has a way to map server clusters to virtual machines, as well as map what are on the virtual machines we are mapping? I assume that we would use relationships and configuration items, however, I am wondering what those relationship types would be and what the configuration items relating to the relationships would look like in regards to the virtual machines.  In addition to servers, clusters, virtual machines, and services are there other asset types or configuration item types that people use for data center inventory?

Thank you!

Hello Em,

You would need to be tracking each server/virtual machine as an asset or CI, and create relationships between those that directly correlate to each other. Relationships are created in the TDAdmin area of that Asset/CI app in the Configuration Item Relationship Types section.

You can create relationships such that it denotes an operational dependency between the "child" asset/CI and the Parent one. This would mean the dependent item requires the parent in order to be functional.

I'm not personally intimately familiar with how other clients may be using asset apps to manage data center inventory, but I'm happy to ask our services team if they have any clients they know of who are doing this and who'd be willing to connect with you to discuss their processes?
