Gotchas and Pitfalls

  • When retrieving your calendar URL be careful to capture the URL and not just the .ics file.  If you left click on the "URL" it may initiate a .ics file download.  Running this file in outlook could result in a single snapshot calendar in Outlook and lead to the calendar not automatically updating.  To avoid this right click on the "URL" and copy the link address.  Use this value when mapping the Internet calendar in Outlook.
  • There are calendar delays of several hours when syncing externally, that apply to Outlook, Google Calendar, etc. When using the Outlook Desktop application specifically, you can refresh the calendar in near real-time by unchecking the Update Limit checkbox (on Windows) or select the desired Auto-Refresh duration (on Mac) to enable more frequent updates than once an hour. If you do not see this setting on Windows, you may need to disable Calendar Improvements by right clicking on the Mailbox -> Data File Properties -> Advanced -> Advanced tab -> and uncheck Turn On Calendar Improvements.
