This concepts article will help admins using the Asset Discovery Service understand what settings TeamDynamix provides for SNMP.
Overview
This article describes how TeamDynamix Asset Discovery works with SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) to collect information about assets on your network. The Asset Discovery Service will issue SNMP queries using a set of read community strings. SNMP is most useful for discovering networked printers and network equipment such as modems, routers, and switches.
Configuring the SNMP Asset Discovery Data Provider
TeamDynamix provides the following settings to configure the SNMP Data Provider on a discovery job:
- Target Selection Type – This controls which IP addresses within the job's range are targeted by SNMP. The Pingable option is suggested. See this article for more information.
- SNMP Version – The version of SNMP to use for network queries. Currently only versions 1 and 2 are supported by the Asset Discovery Service.
- Retry Count – The number of times to retry a query when there is a timeout or error. Defaults to 3 when not provided.
- Timeout Length – The length of time to wait for a timeout (ms). Defaults to 3000 when not provided.
- Max Concurrent Requests – The number of concurrent requests that can be sent. Defaults to 500 when not provided.
- Community String(s) – The read community string(s) to use for SNMP. Enter each item on a separate line. Note that many devices ship with a default community string of public, which is the default when not provided.
