Answer
The My Feed desktop module is associated with the My Work application. It is literally a module showing the same feed as My Work > My Feed.
The Project Feed desktop module is associated with the Projects application. It only shows items as they relate to projects which you are on. Ticket feed entries, for instance, would not appear here.
