Mapping a Project Charter to the Project Details View in TeamDynamix

This a how-to article will help PPM process key stakeholders and TDX administrators to incorporate project charter information into TDX and the Project Details view. The user must have the following settings enabled: TDX Administrator.  This article assumes the user is familiar with navigating within a Project in TDNext and creating project attributes and project sections.

Overview

TeamDynamix system attributes and custom attributes can be used to represent most all of the information found in common project charter documents.  This reduces overhead and duplication of data by no longer needing to use project charters.

How To Create the Charter

  1. Become familiar with the TDX system attributes and sections that are commonly found in project charters and determine if how they may be used for your project charter needs.

    1. Start / End Dates

    2. Budget (Time Budget and Expense Budget)

    3. Description

    4. Requirements

    5. Stakeholders

    6. Project/Request Sections

      1. Goals

      2. Organizational Risks

      3. Benefits

      4. ROI

  2. Set project/request sections to be included on the relevant project types where project charter information is needed

  3. Identify additional fields required

  4. Create custom attributes to capture the additional information and set order values as needed.

    1. Associate the attributes with any project types

    2. Create Project Attribute Sections to organize the attributes as needed.

  5. Populate the information within a project and view the Project Details to see the information put together

Here is an excerpt of what it may look like with system and custom attributes completed:

Project Charter Example

Many of the sections are displayed in the Project Details View.  For any that are not included, they are a click away in the left navigation pane of this view.

Printing a "Project Charter" (Project Details view)

Sometimes stakeholders may want to have a printed or pdf of the project information that makes up a typical project charter.  To print the Project Details view, click the green Print button and select the information to be included in the document.  If a pdf is desired and you have a print to pdf capability, select that as your printer and save the file.

Print Options for Project Details

Note that while the order of custom attributes can be affected by the Project Attribute Sections and the Order values of the project attributes, where the custom attributes are displayed among the Project Details view is not configurable.
