Understanding the Differences Between TeamDynamix-hosted Files and Briefcase Integration Files

Question

What are the differences between the two file upload options on a project?

Environment

  • The File From Computer option is available in all Work Management environments.
  • The File From <Name of Briefcase Integration> is available in environments that have a Work Management Briefcase integration set up.

Answer

File From Computer

  • When using File From Computer a download icon will appear, indicating you can download a copy of this file.
  • This method will upload a copy of the file to TeamDynamix. This means TeamDynamix will be the host of this file.
  • There are file size and attachment type limits when using this method. For more details, please review our knowledge base article Attachments in TeamDynamix.
When using File From Computer in a project briefcase, you have the ability to check out the file, make revisions, and check the file back in to the project. More on file check out and check in can be found in our knowledge base article Working with the Briefcase.

File From <Name of Briefcase Integration>

  • When using File From <Name of Briefcase Integration>, a redirect icon will appear, indicating you will be redirected to the site where the file is being hosted.
  • This method only creates a shortcut to where the file is being hosted. TeamDynamix does not host files added via Briefcase Integration.
  • There are no file size limits when referencing a file added through a briefcase integration.
When using a briefcase integration to add files to TeamDynamix items, all file-related permissions are controlled by the online file share system itself and not by TeamDynamix.
