Working with RSS Modules

This how-to article will help administrators to understand how to create and manage RSS Feeds in TDAdmin. The user must have TDAdmin access or at least be a client portal Administrator.

Overview

RSS modules are desktop and Client Portal modules which display the contents of pre-configured RSS feeds. An RSS feed allows users to access updates to other websites from within the TeamDynamix environment.  Administrators can configure RSS modules to display on Dashboard in TDNext and the Client Portal.

Creating a New RSS Module

To create a new RSS module:

  1. In TDAdmin, click Desktop Templates > RSS Modules.
  2. At the top of the page, click + New. Supply the following information:
    • Name: The name of the RSS Feed/Desktop Module.
    • Feed URL: The URL to reference when attempting to load resources for the RSS Feed.
    • Level of Detail
      • Normal: Only the title of the feed item will be displayed in the module.
      • High: The title and body of each feed item will be displayed in the module.
    • Category: The name of the category with which the module will be associated. This is so that users can organize the RSS Modules for easy desktop management.
  3. Click Preview to ensure the feed URL is valid
  4. Finally, click Save.

Modifying an Existing RSS Module

To modify an existing RSS module:

  1. In TDAdmin, go to Desktop Templates > RSS Modules.
  2. In the RSS Modules Display window, click the Edit link next to the module you’d like to edit.
  3. Modify the details as desired.
    • If changes are made to the Feed URL, click the Preview button.
  4. Click the Save link next to the modified RSS module.

Deleting an RSS Module

To delete an RSS module:

  1. In TDAdmin, go to Desktop Templates > RSS Modules.
  2. In the RSS Modules Display window, click the Delete link next to the module you’d like to edit.
  3. Click the OK button in the confirmation popup.

Gotchas & Pitfalls

Whenever the Feed URL is changed, you must click the Preview button before you are able to save the changes to the RSS Module. This ensures that the feed at the provided URL is a valid RSS feed.
