Working with Link Categories

This how-to article will help Users to create Project Links using the TDNext interface or TDClient interface. The user must have the access to Projects and be on a project either in TDNext or as a resource in the Client Portal.

Overview

There is only one value to create and manage for list categories, the category name.

Creating Link Categories

Categories help to focus the organization of links. When a new link is created the user must assign it to a category.

To create a link category:

  1. In TDNext, navigate to Applications > Projects.
  2. In the left navigation, click the project whose Links module you wish to add a link category to.
  3. Click the Links in the sub navigation under the project.
  4. Click the Categories sub navigation under Links.
  5. In the Category Name field, above the list, enter a name for the new category.
  6. When finished, click the Save button.

Editing Link Categories

To edit a link category:

  1. In TDNext, navigate to Applications > Projects.
  2. In the left navigation, click the project whose Links module you wish to add a link category to.
  3. Click the Links in the sub navigation under the project.
  4. Click the Categories sub navigation under Links.
  5. In the category list, click the Edit link at the right end of the row for the category.
  6. Update the Category Name.
  7. Click the Save link at the right end of the row for the category.

Deleting Link Categories

A link category cannot be deleted if there are any links using the category. To delete the category the links could either be reassigned to different link categories, or the links would need to be deleted entirely. Before doing this, decide if renaming the category would serve your purpose. If yes, follow the Editing instructions above.

To delete a link category:

  1. In TDNext, navigate to Applications > Projects.
  2. In the left navigation, click the project whose Links module you wish to add a link category to.
  3. Click the Links in the sub navigation under the project.
  4. Click the Categories sub navigation under Links.
  5. In the category list, click the Delete link at the right end of the row for the category.
  6. Click OK to confirm the deletion in the popup.

Gotchas & Pitfalls

  • Link Categories are project specific and not a universal that is shared across projects within TeamDynamix.
  • Links can be defaulted on Projects via a Project template. Project Templates can be added onto active Projects at any point. More information on Project Templates, please see this Knowledge base article.
