Working with Link Categories

This how-to article will help users create Project Links in Work Management or the Client Portal. The user must have access to the specific Project application and be on a project either in Work Management or as a resource in the Client Portal.

Overview

There is only one value to create and manage for list categories, the category name.

Creating Link Categories

Categories help to focus the organization of links. When a new link is created, the user must assign it to a category.

To create a link category:

  1. In Work Management, navigate to View Applications, and select the appropriate Project application.
  2. In the left navigation, click the project whose Links module you wish to add a link category to.
  3. Click Links in the left navigation.
  4. On the Links page, click Categories in the toolbar.
  5. Click + Add.
  6. In the Category Name field, enter a name for the new category.
  7. When finished, click the Save button.

Editing Link Categories

To edit a link category:

  1. In Work Management, navigate to View Applications, and select the appropriate Project application.
  2. In the left navigation, click the project where the link category is.
  3. Click Links in the left navigation.
  4. On the Links page, click Categories in the toolbar.
  5. In the category list, click the Edit link at the right end of the category row.
  6. Update the Category Name.
  7. Click the Save link at the far right of the category row.

Deleting Link Categories

A link category cannot be deleted if any links use it. To delete the category, the links could either be reassigned to other link categories or deleted entirely. Before doing this, decide if renaming the category would serve your purpose. If yes, follow the Editing instructions above.

To delete a link category:

  1. In Work Management, navigate to View Applications, and select the appropriate Project application.
  2. In the left navigation, click the project where the link category is.
  3. Click Links in the left navigation.
  4. On the Links page, click Categories in the toolbar.
  5. In the category list, click the Delete link at the right end of the row for the category.
  6. Click OK to confirm the deletion in the popup.

Gotchas & Pitfalls

  • Link Categories are project-specific and not shared across projects in TeamDynamix.
  • Links can be set as project defaults via a project template. Project Templates can be added to active projects at any point. For more information on project templates, please see the Using Project Templates article.
