This how-to article will help project managers to add time and expense types to their projects using Work Management. The user must be the project manager of the project, or have the Manage All Projects permission in their Project app security role.
Overview
Time types categorize tracked time. These Time Types can help technicians, project managers, and team members track their actual time for resource management purposes.
Expense types categorize spending and are used in resource planning and Management.
Adding Time Types to Your Projects
The project manager needs to add time types for the project team to use in the Time & Expense application.
To add a time type, the project manager must:
- In Work Management, navigate to View Applications > and select the Project application.
- Click a project name in the left navigation.
- Click Settings in the left navigation
- Scroll to the bottom of the project window to find the Time Types section, then click the +Add button.
- Select the appropriate time type(s) from the Add Time Types selection box (hold the control key for multiple types).
- Choose whether these Time Types will be active for this project via the Active checkbox.
- Click the Save button.

Adding Expense Accounts to Your Projects
The project manager needs to authorize the expense types that project members can use in Time and Expense.
To add an expense, the project manager must:
- In Work Management, navigate to View Applications > and select the Project application.
- Click a project name in the left navigation.
- Click Expenses in the left navigation.
- Click the +Add button.
- Select the appropriate expense type(s) from the Expense Accounts selection box (hold the control key for multiple types).
- To indicate the expense is billable, check the Billable checkbox.
- Choose whether the Expense will be active for this project via the Active checkbox.
- Click the Add button.
Examples
- Common time types include vacation, holiday, project time, ticket time, administrative time, travel time, meeting time, and professional development time.
- Common expense types include hardware, software, airfare, hotel, general equipment, licensing, and laptop repair parts.
