Asset Discovery Manager

Summary

This article describes the Asset Discovery Manager, which is used for some configuration and troubleshooting activities.

Body

This introduction article will help Admins to use the Asset Discovery Manager. The user must have access to the location where the Asset Discovery Manager is installed.

Overview

When the TeamDynamix Asset Discovery Service is installed, the Asset Discovery Manager is also installed. The Asset Discovery Manager application is not used during normal operation of the Asset Discovery service, it is meant to be used for troubleshooting the service.

Where to Find This

This feature appears in the same location where you installed the Asset Discovery Service.

Using the Asset Discovery Manager

To use the Asset Discovery Manager:

  1. Navigate to the location where you have installed the Asset Discovery Service (most likely a server).
  2. Open the Asset Discovery Manager.
  3. Depending on what you need to do, use the functions below.

The Discovery Manager includes the following capabilities:

Run as Administrator – Running as administrator is required for many functions within the Discovery Manager.

  • To relaunch the Discovery Manager as an administrator, click the File menu, then Run As Administrator.

Add Service – To connect the manager to multiple instances of the Asset Discovery Service, click the Service menu, then Add Service.

Install/Uninstall Service – To install additional instances of the service or to uninstall the service, click Service, then Install/Uninstall Service.

Utilities – There are several functions found under the Utilities menu:

  • WMI Tester – Provides tools for testing Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).
  • SSH Tester – Provides tools for testing Secure Shell (SSH).
  • Create Self-Signed Certificate – Creates a self-signed certificate for use with WMI over HTTPS.
  • Agent Install Assistant – Provides instructions for installing the Asset Discovery Agent and allows you to create a transform file to automate the agent installation. See Working with the TeamDynamix Asset Discovery Agent for more information.

Configure – Change the information to connect to TeamDynamix. The Advanced button includes shortcuts to the configuration files for each protocol, which are used only when using the Discover button.

  • To change the environment to which the Asset Discovery Service connects, click Configure on the right to change the TeamDynamix Services URL, BEID, and Web Services Key. Click OK.

Sync Configuration – To send TeamDynamix a request and get the latest configuration information, click the Sync Config button.

Discover – Allows you to configure an ad hoc discovery job for testing, using selected protocols. This initiates the discovery without checking that the job is active in TeamDynamix. To start an ad hoc discovery job, click the Discover button. Then select the Protocol in the popup and click OK.

Stop/Start – To stop or start the service, click the Stop/Start button. The button label will change, depending on if the service is currently running or not.

Disconnect/Connect – To disconnect from or connect to the service, click the Disconnect/Connect button. The button label will change, depending on if the service is currently connected or not.

Discovery Jobs – The list of discovery jobs at the top of the page shows the jobs that have been configured in TDAdmin. To trigger a job to run immediately, click Run Now on the right.
