Does the asset import allow udpates for product model?

We created a new attribute for product models and trying to update all the records with a value for the new attribute.  I'm trying to use the asset import tool but it skips the import because it says they're duplicates.  Get the following message:

The following product models already exist in the system, and will not be imported:

The new attribute is listed as one of the required fields and displays in the preview but get the skip message.

I thought the import will still make updates to the record? Should it?

Thanks.

Hello Phuong,

The Product Model import screen states: "This import process performs duplicate checking on the basis of name, product type, and manufacturer. If there already exists one or more product models with the same name, product type, and manufacturer as a row that is being imported, that row will be skipped."

I believe the implication with that wording is it will only support importing new Product Models, as product models will be skipped if they match existing records during import.

Ok thanks Mark. I wanted to confirm since I saw an answer to another question saying that it should update. - Phuong Hoang Fri 7/9/21 12:59 PM
Do you have the URL of that other question by chance? - Mark Sayers Fri 7/9/21 1:01 PM
I guess the answer in this one wasn't marked as Accepted. But it was from the first paragraph in the reply.

Ah I believe that answer A) is relatively "old" and B) was found to be invalid per the actual behavior of the system, and so (if the description of that importer actually *did* at one time state that updating was supported) we adjusted the wording of that page to remove any implication that it supports Updating. The Product Model import only supports creating new Product Models at this time. - Mark Sayers Fri 7/9/21 1:31 PM
