Getting Started with Security Roles

Body

Overview

Security Roles are the central hub for application permissions in TeamDynamix. These roles are used to select which actions and visibility options are available to users who have the security role applied to their account. License Types and Security Roles are not the same, however work together to accomplish a purpose of defining permissions in the Business Entity. View the License Type as the spine of the Security Role, it is the main core of the Security Role but not all permissions of the License Type must be active within that Security Role.

The specific permissions that are allowed on a Security Role are limited by the License Type which is applied to a Security Role upon creation. In order to create a user, a Security Role is required. The License Type is directly tied and limited to the number and type of licenses purchased for your organization. Each user will be utilizing one license of the type specified on the Security Role. However there is not a limit to the amount of Security Roles that can exist in a Business Entity. Dependent on the institution's needs, it is common to have multiple Security Roles created using the same License Type to get more granular control over that user's ability to exert change in your environment.

Below are example Security Roles from other TeamDynamix implementations

Institution A Institution B
Enterprise Full Access
Technician Ticket Worker Bee
Team Member Project Worker Bee
Client Faculty/Staff
Student Technician Student Technician

App security roles vs environment security roles

Its important to understand that each user has 1 security role for the entire environment (this is the license that you pay for in your contract) and 1 security role for each segmented app (tickets, assets, client portals) that the user may need access to. For example, its common for an IT person to have full privileges in their main app whereas they may have a reduced set of permissions in say an HR app.
