Adding Task Dependencies

Tasks can be marked as dependent on other tasks. This means that the dependent task cannot be started/completed before its predecessor (task it is dependent on) is complete. In order to add a task dependency, the user must:

For Web Plan Manager:

  1. Check out the plan.
  2. Click on the Predecessors cell of the task that you would like to make dependent in the task list.
  3. Enter the numbers corresponding to the predecessor tasks separated by commas in the Predecessors textbox.
  4. Once complete, press the "Enter" key.
  5. Check In your plan.

Alternatively, you can open the task details window by double-clicking the task. Use the +Add button to add Predecessors and/or External Dependencies for your task.

For Windows Plan Manager:

  1. Check out the plan.
  2. Open details window for task and to go Relationships tab > +Add > Predecessor Task / Add External Predecessor, OR click in the Predecessor cell of the task you'd like to make dependent.
  3. Enter the numbers corresponding to the predecessor tasks separated by commas in the Predecessors text box.
  4. Once complete press "Enter" key if editing from plan view, or "Save" if adding from the Relationships tab of the task.
  5. Check in your plan.

Alternatively you can also accomplish the same process by right clicking on the task in question (after checking out the plan) and choosing "Add Relationship".

By default, this adds Finish-To-Start dependencies with a lag of 1 day. If the dependent task's predecessor becomes overdue, the dependent task will also be marked with the a red overdue icon.
