Adding Resources To Tasks

Users can add one or many project members to the resources field of a task several ways. In addition, the user may add varied work levels for each resource expressed as a percentage of the estimated work. To add resources to a task, the user may:

Drag and Drop

  1. Go to the task list for the appropriate iteration/plan in Iteration/Plan Manager.
  2. Click the "Resources" bar in the bottom right of Iteration/Plan Manager.
  3. Click and drag the desired resource onto the appropriate task. You can select more than one resource by holding the Ctrl key.


Drop Down Select
 

  1. Go to the task list for the appropriate iteration/plan in Iteration/Plan Manager.
  2. Single click in the Resources field for the desired task. You can also use the F2 key to make the selected row enter edit mode.
  3. Click the arrow and select the check boxes for the resources you wish to add.


Task Detail

  1. Go to the task list for the appropriate iteration/plan in Iteration/Plan Manager.
  2. Double-click on the task row you wish to add a resource to.
  3. The task detail dialog window will open. Click the "Resources" tab.
  4. Check the box in the Is Assigned column next to each resource you wish to be assigned to the task.
  5. If you want the system to divide the estimated hours evenly among resources on the task as you assign resources, check the "Auto-distribute resource assignments" box. If you leave this box unchecked, resources will be added to the task without hour assignments.
  6. You may change the percent allocations by moving the % Assigned slider for a resource or clicking into the Est. Hours column and editing that value.
  7. To remove a project member from this task, uncheck the box in the Is Assigned column for that resource.
  8. Once all task assignments are complete, exit the task details and save your plan.
