Tracking Software Licenses

Hello,

We're exploring tracking software licenses within TDX. My initial thought was to create an application CI type and license CI type, and populate with CIs so I can have a relationship between them. But I'm coming across a few things that keep this from accomplishing everything we'd like.

Can CIs not have a relationship with Vendors or Contracts? Like if we had a contract for the licenses, would there be a way for me to show this relationship?

I noticed that assets have a users tab, but that CIs do not. That user tab seems like it'd be an easy way to have list of all users with license type if we were able to have that tab on the CIs. Without that it seems like I'd need to have a application CI, license type CI, then individual license CI, if I was to use CI's to track licenses. I'm thinking we may just look at using assets instead of CIs for the licenses, and then we can still connect them to an application CI, but I wanted to make sure I'm not overlooking something.

Thank you!

I ran into the same problem. Pretty much disregarded CI's altogether since you can't report on relationships short of the Parent/Child relationship between assets. - David Cheang Mon 4/19/21 8:01 PM

Hello Annie,

CIs are not currently able to have relationships with Vendors or Contracts, no. You would likely want to consider tracking these as assets for the reason's you've already stated as it will better allow you to track more facets of information about the software in question.
