Is there a way to change the type for a custom attribute?

OMG! I hand entered over 200+ choices for a ticket custom attribute and configured the parent matrix and realized the type should be multiselect and not a dropdown. Is there any way I can change the type without deleting everything and starting over?

Hi Edith,

Thanks for submitting your question. I am sorry to hear that the attribute you needed was incorrect for cascading dependencies. Unfortunately, there is not a way to change the Attribute type once created. You would have to create the attribute again. I would preserve the created one until you get the new one there that way you have the example to work off of when getting the parent/child relationship established. With your choices for attributes being over 200+ we have a way to import in attribute choices using a PowerShell script.  For more information on that, check out this link here. That can help alleviate time manually keying them in. Furthermore, you will have to go back through and set up the parent / child matrix manually again.

If you need any additional assistance please let us know.

Holy Cow, a Powershell Script in high volume emergency cases? That's like "In Case of Emergency, Break Glass!" That's incredibly helpful to know about just in case it ever happens, and a nice piece of functionality of you folks to provide! - Michael Press Wed 3/24/21 11:36 PM
